Renewable energy gets spotlight in S.A.

Texas Renewables, a four-day convention organized by the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association and CPS Energy, began Sunday as speakers from Germany, Mexico, Canada and Israel talked about ways their nations can partner with U.S. cities or companies on renewable energy projects.
Susette Brandt, vice president of sales for Zarges Aluminum Systems LLC, said her company, based near Munich, decided to build a distribution and manufacturing center in Texas after Amarillo city officials offered favorable incentives.
The Zarges plant, which will build components for the interior of wind turbines, including platforms and ladders, will open late this year and hire 100 workers in the next two to three years.
While some investors have soured on wind power, “we still think wind is a viable energy source to invest in,” Brandt said. “We’re very optimistic about wind in general.”
The convention continued Sunday afternoon with workshops designed to help take the guesswork out of powering houses or small businesses with renewable energy.
