November 2010: Austin, November Networking at House and Earth

Our November, 2010 Austin networking meeting was at House + Earth, a new green building materials retail store in Austin.  We had an opportunity to check out some of their leading green building products and learn what you can do to improve your home or office.  House + Earth focuses on interior finish-out i.e., cabinetry, countertops, flooring, paints, wall coverings, etc.  It’s a place where Central Texas homeowners, architects, interior designers, and professional tradesmen will find an extensive range of environmentally friendly alternatives for the things that make a home… a home.

Our speakers were Miki Cook and Jessica Worden.  Miki Cook is the Senior Conservation Program Specialist with the Austin Energy Green Building Single-Family Program and has her own consulting firm that has provided ratings for the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes program.  She is a LEED-AP and certified Green Verifier.

Ms. Worden practices a variety of general law issues and has her own consulting firm, TerraNova Auditing & Consulting, providing clients with environmental regulations and sustainability strategies.  She has an M.S. in Environmental Education and is a LEED Green Associate.    Attorney Worden currently also serves as Austin chapter President of the Texas Green Network.

Miki will be speaking about residential green building and green building rating programs including green building basics, resource efficiency, water, energy, and natural resource use, life cycle analysis, and occupant health.  Jessica Worden will be speaking about green building aspects and sustainability practices for your home or office.  She will provide quick and efficient tips to make your home “greener”, give rebate and tax incentive information, and provide a variety of resources to help with sustainability strategies.

Beverages were provided by SESA Teas and snacks provided by Theo Chocolate.
